July 2023 | Update

More than 85 per cent of our ‘good neighbour fence’ has been installed along our southern boundary, with the retaining walls in place too. The High Performance Sports Centre and Community Plaza concrete has been completed, with precast pieces installed along the west elevation, and about half of the steelwork now in place.

This month, the steel curved sections and fascia plate will be installed and the steel trusses. You can also see our new terrace seating taking shape – what a view!

May 2023 | Update

Work across the construction area in recent weeks has seen the south-eastern carpark completed, with teachers able to use this area from the start of Term 2.

Concrete pours for foundations, vermiculite fireproofing has been installed, with steel columns now in place for what becomes our sports centre, ahead of precast panels being erected shortly.

March 2023 | Progress

Stormwater pits have been installed in the far south eastern corner, and the area levelled and prepared for bitumen to be laid shortly. A number of retaining walls have also been installed, with the south tennis court taking shape.

Shortly, the Plaza area will be excavated further, and steel work for the sports centre installed.

February 2023 | Taking shape

During the Summer holidays the construction team have been building, making excellent progress on this world class facility.

The first foundation slab is in place and shows us the location of the Indoor Sports Centre changerooms, under what will become our high performance space. Underfloor service works, retaining walls, and the installation of lighting poles, plus services are further achievements made to early February.

Perhaps most exciting is the work happening off-site, with a sneak peek of the trusses that will run along the inside of our Centre taking shape.

Shortly, more retaining walls will be built, including one along what becomes our outdoor tennis courts.

It's an exciting time as we watch our new facility take shape ready for students to use and enjoy in early 2024.

July 2022 | Building high performance

With construction of our new $25 million Arts and Sports Precinct to start soon, Kennett Builders will fence the Precinct build site during the winter school holidays, temporarily changing access to Mercedes College from the beginning of Term 3.

Key notes:

  • On-site parking will be significantly reduced, with around 50 per cent of staff, and all students who drive to school, needing to park off-site and walk into the campus.
  • Kiss-and-Drop will be available in the mornings only, and restricted to Reception to Year 3 families (including siblings).
  • The Carrick Hill Drive/Fullarton Road entrance will be reduced to pedestrian access only.
