How can I see the College?
We invite you to attend one of our Orientation Walks held regularly throughout the year. Join the Principal and Heads of School and experience a typical morning at the College as students and staff go about their daily activities.
On arrival you will be greeted by our friendly staff followed by a short introduction by our Principal, Mr Peter Daw. Depending on your area of interest, you will be invited to join the appropriate Orientation Walk with the Junior, Middle or Senior School.
General information regarding Registration, Curriculum, Tuition and Transport will be available on the day. On completion of the tour, refreshments will be served and staff will be available to answer any questions you may have. Please click here for Orientation walk dates.
What is your Enrolment Policy, in which order do you offer positions?
The Mercedes College Enrolment Policy states that we must offer positions as per the following criteria:
- Children of families with a child already attending the College
- Children of Old Scholars
- Children of Catholic families (those who have attended a regional parish school have some priority)
- For entry at Year 8, children of denominations other than Catholic, who have attended a regional parish school
- Children of families of other denominations, where vacancies occur.
What are the intake years at Mercedes College?
There are three key points of entry to Mercedes College: Reception (both beginning and mid-year) Year 6 and Year 8 with opportunities for enrolment at all other year levels. Please email the Registrar or phone 8372 3252.
When will my child start school?
The criteria for starting Reception on the first day of school in Term 1 continues to be that the child will reach the age of 5 on or before 30 April in that year.
The criteria for starting Reception on the first day of school in Term 3 is that the child will reach the age of 5 on or before 31 October of that year.
Children whose birthday falls between 1 November and 31 December are not eligible to commence school before the following year.
I am looking for a Senior School place for my child, can you assist?
Depending on class sizes and subject selections we may be able to assist with a position for your child in Years 10, 11 or 12. Please call the Registrar to discuss your requirements on 8372 3252 or email.
How far in advance should I register my child/ren?
It is never too early to register your child/ren. The earlier we receive your child’s registration, the better opportunity we have of being able to accommodate your family in the preferred year of entry. All positions are offered following our criteria, which is set out on the first page of the Registration of Interest Form.
Within each criteria, the positions are offered in order of date of application. When vacancies occur at non entry Year levels we endeavour to fill these positions as soon as possible.

Is it too late to register my child/ren?
Registration remains open at all times. Some positions become available throughout the year and we work with families who are looking to commence at Mercedes College within short time frames. We also welcome families transferring from overseas or interstate and understand the start time for these families is quite often mid-year.
How do I register my child/ren?
Please complete a Registration of Interest for Enrolment and return to the College along with a non-refundable Registration Fee of $33 (incl GST). Please complete a separate form for each child.
Upon lodgement of the completed Registration of Interest for Enrolment an official acknowledgement will be forwarded and your child’s name will be placed on a registration listing for the year of entry.
Please note that lodgement of a Registration of Interest for Enrolment does not guarantee an interview or a position, nor does an interview guarantee the offer of a position.
Can I specify an entry year other than one of the intake years?
Families may nominate any Year Level for entry however, we recommend that families choose an intake year as a first option, as we take in new classes at each of these levels. For example, if you specify Year 8 entry but you would consider entry at Year 7 if a position becomes available, please note this on the top of the Registration of Interest for Enrolment.
I have just received a letter asking for confirmation of interest for my child to attend Mercedes College in the future. Does this mean that there is a position available?
Approximately two (2) years before entry we send out a letter to all children on our registration list. This is to re-confirm a family’s intention of enrolling their child at Mercedes College. When we receive these completed forms we update our registration lists and offer positions according to our Enrolment Policy.
It is very important that you advise your intention at this stage. Should we not receive a response from you; the Registration of Interest for Enrolment will generally be forwarded to the next intake and year level.
Please note: it is important for you to advise any change of address details.
Where is my child on the Registration list?
Each year level has its own registration listing, which can vary in length depending on whether it is an intake year or not. We do not advise a child’s position on the registration listing at any point in time, as the lists change constantly as families change their preferences.
When do you offer places for an intake year?
Approximately 18 months prior to the anticipated date of commencement of the child, and as positions become available, an Offer of Interview and an Application for Enrolment will be forwarded to families in order of the criteria of our Enrolment Policy. Where possible this information should be signed by both parties as per the child’s Birth Certificate.
You will be requested to return the completed Application for Enrolment along with a copy of the following:
- A family reference - this may be from your Parish Priest or a member of the community and is a short letter of introduction of your family to the school
- For Year 1 entry onwards, the most recent school report
- Baptismal Certificate if applicable
- Court order or related information regarding custody of the child if applicable
- Residency/Citizenship Visa documentation for Non Residents of Australia.
- Documentation relating to Student Learning Needs i.e. extension or support
- Documentation relating to Health Care Needs
What happens once I return the Application for Enrolment and required paperwork?
On receipt of the completed Application for Enrolment and relevant documents, these documents will be reviewed and you will be advised of a decision regarding an offer for your child. After receiving your confirmation of acceptance of the position, an interview will be organised for your child. This meeting is an essential part of each student’s transition into the College and will allow you and your child another opportunity to ask any questions you may have.
When is a formal offer of position made?
Once the Principal or Head of School has reviewed your child’s application and relevant documents a formal offer of position is posted to you. If you wish to accept the offer of position for your child we ask that you sign the Acceptance of Enrolment and return with a Confirmation Fee payment of $1000. Of this fee, $500 will be credited to your family’s first fee account.
For siblings the Confirmation Fee payable will be $800, with $500 to be credited to the first fee account. In the event that your child’s application is withdrawn prior to commencement at the College, the full Confirmation Fee is non refundable.
After receiving your confirmation of acceptance of the position, an interview will be organised for your child. This meeting is an essential part of each student’s transition into the College and will allow you and your child another opportunity to ask any questions you may have.
What if my child attends a local feeder school - do we still need to register?
As per the Enrolment Policy, we give priority to Catholic children currently attending one of our local Catholic feeder schools should your child be registered. It is essential that we receive your Registration of Interest for Enrolment early to enable us to allocate a position for your child.
Lodgement of a Registration of Interest for Enrolment does not guarantee an interview or a position, nor does an interview guarantee the offer of a position.
What if we are not sure if Mercedes College is the right school for our child/ren?
We encourage you to attend an Orientation Walk hosted by the Principal and Heads of School where you will have an opportunity to speak with staff.
Should we have a position to offer your child, you will be invited to meet with the Principal or Head of School. You will not be required to make a firm decision concerning your child’s education until after the meeting when a formal offer is made for a position.
Our family is moving to Adelaide from interstate or overseas at short notice. Will you have a place for my child/ren?
Mercedes College will assist families where possible from interstate and overseas where there are positions available.
Mercedes College is the only co-educational Catholic school in South Australia to offer curriculum provided by the International Baccalaureate Organisation (IBO) from Reception through to Year 12 on the one site.

My child has been offered a place in a particular year level however; we now wish to change the year of entry. Will my child be guaranteed a place in the new year of entry?
Offers of Position only apply to the year of entry nominated. Should you wish to change the year of entry your child’s details will be transferred to the appropriate Registration listing and the original date of application will apply. Entry at the new year level is not guaranteed, however if your child has been registered for a long period of time, and the registration is moving to a later year, the possibility will be enhanced.
When do I commence paying school fees?
Fees are charged annually in August/September (generally in line with the end of Term 3) for the following year (coinciding with the fee setting budget review by the Finance Standing Committee and approval by the College Council) with payment arrangements to be in place for the year September to August each year. Therefore you will commence your fee contributions in September of the year prior to entry.
What if my family is not Catholic?
All students are encouraged to live in the way of the Gospels, and the Mercy Keys of Compassion, Integrity, Justice, Responsibility, Loyalty and Mutual Respect are lived on a daily basis.
Whilst our Morning Prayer and celebrations as a community are celebrated following the Catholic faith, the students study religions from all parts of the world as part of the curriculum to ensure that each student has a good all round understanding of religions of the world.
The Reception to Year 12 Religious Education Programme provides students with opportunities to practise their faith in the following ways:
- Class, year level and whole school liturgical experiences
- Daily prayer
- Retreat experiences for Years 8-12
The Mercy tradition is based strongly on service to those less fortunate than ourselves thus our Senior students participate in a number of service and outreach activities.
Are there Scholarships available?
Mercedes offers two full or four half Catherine McAuley Justice Scholarships from Years 8 to 12 and two full or four half Scholarships from Years 11 to 12.
Scholarships are awarded based on the results of previous school reports and evidence of potential talent in academic studies in addition to the following:
- Financial, socio-economic and compassionate circumstances
- Involvement in own faith community
Students wishing to apply are required to submit the Catherine McAuley Justice Scholarship Application Form.
